FrontPage -- a popular web design software package published by Microsoft. Aimed towards new and intermediate designers.

FrontPage extensions -- the set of data files installed on a client's web server which allows users of Microsoft's FrontPage to fully take advantage of the software. With the proper extensions installed FrontPage users can not only publish their web site directly to the server, they can also take advantage of the software's advanced features such as scripts and webbots.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) -- FTP programs are used to transfer files, such as html pages, images, software, and other web documents, between a users PC and a web server. Some popular FTP programs include Cute FTP, WS FTP, and Bulletproof FTP.

ICANN (The Internet Corporation Assigned Names and Numbers) -- is the nonprofit corporation that was formed to assume responsibility for the IP address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment, domain name system management, and root server system management functions previously performed under U.S. Government contract by IANA and other entities.

IP (Internet Protocol) Address -- the numeric address referring to a specific location on a network. In most cases when you setup domain name with a hosting company they will assign a specific IP address for your hosting account to which your domain name will resolve, or point, to. Ex. http://219.85.244.156

InterNIC -- The InterNIC is a concept for an integrated network information center that was developed by several companies, including Network Solutions, in cooperation with the US Government. Under a recent agreement with the US Government, Network Solutions is transitioning from the use of the word "InterNIC" in connection with its products and services. InterNIC is a registered service mark of the US Department of Commerce.

Java -- a programing platform developed by Sun Microsystems commonly used for web applications on servers.

Javascript -- a simple programming syntax, unrelated to Java, which can be read and processed by web browsers to perform certain basic functions. Javascript is commonly used to add interactivity to web pages in the form of mouseover effects, clocks, date functions and other dynamic page effects.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) images -- The compression method invented by this committee is widely used today, most commonly in the form of JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format) files. Their goal was to reduce the file size of natural, photographic-like true-color images as much as possible without affecting the quality of the image.
